Sharks Set Sites On 2nd Half
Camden will finish in second place in the Liberty Division for the first half after losing Friday night’s game to the Blue Crabs 7-1.
Southern Maryland’s pitching has been their strength all season long and it continued to get the job done at home against the Sharks Friday.

Connor Robertson scattered seven Camden hits over seven innings of shut out work. He struck out five batters and improved his record to 4-2 on the season.

The Riversharks quickly got on the scoreboard as soon as Robertson left the game in the eighth. Chris Walker led off the inning with a double and came around to score when the very next batter Teuris Olivares singled him in. The new Blue Crab pitcher Chris Mobley would then settle down, inducing a double play from Garrett Guzman and striking out Brian Burgamy ending the brief Camden threat.

An RBI single from Eric Crozier put Southern Maryland on top 1-0 in the fourth inning. However, the big blow came in the fifth when Matt Craig blasted a three-run homerun off Camden’s starter Travis Chick (4-3). Chick would be relieved by Eddy Camacho promptly after the homer. He finished the night throwing four and one third innings, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five.

Camacho struck out back to back batters to end the fifth, but the Crabs added more run support in the sixth with a two-run homer from Travis Garcia. Maryland added their last run in the eighth inning, an RBI single for Jamar Hill.

The 7-1 victory clinched the first half and a playoff birth for the Blue Crabs. Meanwhile, the Riversharks will have to settle for second place in the first half and start preparing for their second half campaign which will begin next Thursday at Campbell’s Field after the All-Star Break.

There are still two games left in the first half and the series in Southern Maryland will continue tomorrow night at 6:35 PM.
