Camden Holds Off Somerset Sweep
The Camden Riversharks held off a series sweep for the Somerset Patriots. Coming off of a two game loss against the visiting Patriots, the Sharks were able to score first and hold onto the lead for the entire game. Steve Hammond (7-5) records the win this afternoon, while Josh Miller was charged with a loss. Tracy Thorpe earned his seventh save.

Shea Harris reached first on a bobble by third baseman Jeff Nettles. He advanced to scoring position on an overthrown ball to first base by Josh Miller the attempts of putting Harris out. Harris then moved to third on a Chris Walker sacrifice bunt. With two outs on the board, Brian Burgamy stepped up to bat and hit a line drive to right center, allowing Harris to cross home plate.

The next inning had Chris Malec hitting a two run homer to bring in Raul Padron who had singled just before, now making the score 3-0 for the home team.

Somerset tacked on one run in the sixth frame and the ‘Sharks answered back in the eighth. Garrett Guzman walked to lead off the inning. Brian Burgamy singled into right field, allowing Guzman to reach third. Vito Chiaravalloti brought in the extra run with a sacrifice fly into center.

With the Riversharks leading 3-1 and no outs for Somerset in the top of the ninth, Josh Pressley knocked a solo home run over the back wall in hopes of starting a rally for the Patriots to take the lead; it was not enough though. After Pressley’s homer, Tracy Thorpe retired the next three batters in order.

The Sharks travel to Lancaster for a three game series that starts tomorrow. Brad Knox will be pitching against Jason Simontacchi. They will return home Monday July 19th to play the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at 7:05pm. Listen to Tim Saunders and the entire radio team for the live broadcast of all the action.
