Sharks Snap Losing Streak
After losing five in a row, Camden’s longest drought of 2010, the Sharks shutout the Bridgeport Bluefish in Bridgeport en route to a 4-0 victory.
The Riversharks jumped out to an early lead and never looked back Thursday night. Teuris Olivares led off the game with a double followed by a surprise bunt single from Garrett Guzman. With runners at first and third Chris Malec hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Olivares. Guzman would advance to third on a Brian Burgamy double and later score on a pass ball between the legs of catcher Luis Rodriguez. Matt Ceriani drove in his first run as Rivershark with a single to left field plating Burgamy.

It was 3-0 after one half inning of play and that’s the way it would stay until the top of the ninth.

Josh Brey delivered his second scoreless outing of the season. He went 5.2 innings allowing just four hits. Ryan McKeller came into the game with runners at first and second and two out in the sixth inning. McKeller induced a fly ball out from Joe Jiannetti, one of 19 fly outs hit into by the Bluefish in the game, ending the sixth. Two more perfect innings from McKeller set up Tracy Thorpe for the save.

However, Chris Malec and Brian Burgamy had other plans when they hit back to back doubles in the top of the ninth extending the Camden lead to four. Burgamy continues to pace the Atlantic League in RBI driving in Malec for his 60th of the season.

Thorpe threw a perfect ninth inning, three straight pop outs, and closed the door on the Riversharks losing streak.

The series continues with the Bluefish tomorrow night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Kevin Mannix (8-5) for the ‘Fish and Camden’s Ben Davis (3-7) will face off in game two of this four game series.
